This archive was found in the oldest brick business block to be built in Richfield
Springs, NY. Horace E. Walter, a jeweler, received the deed
to the land in 1873 and erected the brick building the same year. The following
year, a new company with capital holdings of $10,000 was incorporated in the
Walter Business Block, the Burglar Alarm Co. The owner of this new business
was Hollie E. Walter, son of Horace Walter.
The Adam Westfall grocery store, a part of the Walter Business Block, was the first to own a telephone in Richfield Springs. In the early 1900's, the building changed owners and became known as Getman Block, named after its new owner Mrs. Norman Getman. The building adjoins the Masonic building and the Jersen Building.
This archive belonged to the estate of the Getman family. The belongings date from 1868 - 1888, which include an old check book, an accounting journal, Homoeopathic periodicals, other medical periodicals, daily notes/entries into a day book, and more.
